I'm getting ready for the yearly gem show in Tucson. Although looking forward to it, i'm a bit nervous as well, as I find it really hard to stay within my budget when I'm there. Sparkly temptations are everywhere and I end up reasoning myself with thoughts like: "I'm exchanging dirty paper ($ bills) for unique treasures" or "i've never seen anything like it". I've used up the "you only live once" thing, so I'll have to come up with something new soon. Especially since I've been watching the price of Paraiba go through the roof. Last year I saw a beautiful one, neon blue, perfectly cut and when I asked for the price, I was told "$ 6 000" which I thought was reasonable for a 4,5ct stone, Yes, they're expensive. I was ready to purchase it when the seller asked me if I had a client for it. "no" i replied, pretty sure such beauty would find an owner quickly. That's when he said: "because for a
$ 35 000 stone you should have a client". I had to collect myself and look for my jaw somewhere. it was $ 6000/ct. oopsie. When I think that I paid $ 2 000 for my first one back in 1990 and it was a 4.2ct one (in the picture in the Cocteau setting).
I'm preparing for the worst and will keep you posted
